Christmas thoughts by Bruce Satterfield - Religion instructor at Ricks College, Dec. 1994
All things at Christmas can lead us to the Savior if we let them.
Colors: White - Purity, Red - Blood, Green - Eternal Life, Gold & Silver - Riches of eternity
The Christmas Season: Symbolic of the morning of the first resurrection. We work all year and all our energy is devoted to that one morning.
Santa Clause: Happy, giving Christ, dressed in Red & White, all he does all year is get ready to give gifts. Prepares all year for us. Christ comes to give us the gift of eternal life.
Rudolph: The light of Christ. Guide us to the gift, light the way. it is a possibility and a reality that we can return home.
Frosty the Snowman: White, magical, powerful, represented the returning Christ - "I'll be back again someday."
Nutcracker: The leader of the war against Satan.
The Tree: 1 Nephi 11:15 - The Love of God. We are to become like little children and believe.
X-Mas: Early Christians shortened the word Christos which in Hebrew starts with an X. They saw in that letter the atonement.
Christ was born in the 15 mile radius of Jerusalem where all sheep were born & raised for the purpose of sacrifice. Lambs are often laid in managers when they are first born.
